About Readwell & Wright

A book lovers’ paradise in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds. We specialise in books of many genres for all ages.

Readwell and Wright is a family-run bookshop working under the philosophy that a good bookshop is one that engages in a dialogue with its customers. We sell books that we love, but more than that, we talk to our customers so that we can learn their likes and dislikes, can make recommendations and more importantly, get ideas from them about what they would like to see on our shelves. We are a bookshop with heart – every book in our shop is there because we think it’s great. Pop into Readwell and Wright Pocklington and discover your new favourite book.

At Readwell and Wright we pride ourselves on our customer service; we offer a speedy ordering service with no minimum order and if a customer has lost touch with a book they once loved, we will go to any lengths to track down a copy. We love reuniting books with their readers!

“That’s the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet.”

– Jhumpa Lahiri, author – The Namesake

Readwell and Wright is run by Nic and Vincent. Nic was an English teacher and school librarian, which means she is an expert when it comes to giving advice on what books will whet or satisfy the appetite of young readers. She also curates the adult fiction section, and being a voracious reader herself, can usually recommend something to suit those who are not quite sure what to read next.

Vincent has a background in historical archaeology, which means our History department is superb, and he’s always on hand for a chat about history, sci-fi, graphic novels and crime – his other areas of expertise!

As well as our brilliant selection of books, Readwell and Wright sell a variety of book-based and educational gifts, including Orchard Toys and a great range of official Harry Potter merchandise, along with bookmarks, mugs, soft toys, cards and gift wrap, along with National Book Tokens.

Readwell and Wright hold regular book group meetings and author events, both in store and in the community. Keep an eye on the website for regular updates!
